Mourning for Nakhia Williams

Last week, Nakhia Williams, of the Louisville transgender community, died in the hospital, of wounds she received from a shooting on August 20. Wimminwise is currently seeking more information about the memorial fund being raised to assist Nakhia’s family with expenses.

(The local blog Transgriot commented on the community’s loss, and on local media coverage of the event, last week.)

Our hearts and prayers go out to Nakhia’s family, friends, and loved ones. We pray especially for an end to violence against difference.

About Ha_Qohelet

Ha_Qohelet is a transliteration of Hebrew definite article plus a feminine participle, all together meaning "the (feminine) one who assembles" or who calls together. Qohelet is the title of one of the books of the Hebrew Scripture, known in English as Ecclesiastes. The Women's Center at LPTS feels the epithet of Qohelet is a fitting one for what we do and are. The Women's Center is, indeed, a caller-together, a caller-to-wisdom, and an assembler -- of people, of ideas, of actions, and ultimately, we hope, of transformations in the world. In this context, Ha_Qohelet is the Director of the Women's Center, and Editor-in-Chief of Wimminwise.

  3. in the blinking of a eye just a life is begining one is taken much sorrow comes to those whom have the chance to live and honestly love someone special or be truely touched in away of awakening to the joys of life and what it offers through the witnessing of great gifts and talents my couisin was a great artist from insideout she was the type of friend that forgive and forgets to take those in need in without an exspectation of what others wanted them to do or convince them to live them accordingly to their famlys or friends opion she was one to motivate you to live your life the way we all should live happly knowing who you are your worth wnd what you want out of life instead of what others want out of you and from you she help me to realize if your not happy with yourself or with whom ever your with why waste your time in life our down fall a lot of the time is trying to pleas others and not or self feeling empty at the end not doing anything for or selves
nakhia was a light and to the world to live life walking in your own image my cousin and sister help me to realized.that where all prisoners in are own body until you live your life truely being you and loving it fufilly she will be deeply missed
