October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We’ll be saying more about domestic violence throughout out the month, informing our readers of activities in the Louisville area, and providing some resources.
But awareness may begin with something like this: trying to access the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and getting the warning above.
It brought home, to me, exactly what we are talking about when we are talking about domestic violence, in a direct and personal way. We are talking about another person, desperate for relief from pain and torment, reaching out for help, and finding herself again face to face with danger.
Unfortunately, for all too many people (33 million individuals in the United States, according to a statistic at the National Domestic Violence Hotline), awareness begins differently: with the images and experiences of this violence, directed at them.
