2009 Transgender Day of Remembrance

Butterfly logo2009 marks the 11th annual international Transgender Day of Remembrance.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance is a day set aside to honor and remember those who have been victims of violence directed at transgender people, and to raise public awareness about this violence and the need to end it.

All events are free and open to the public.

  • Movie Nights —
    Tuesday, Nov. 10, and Tuesday, Nov. 17
    7:30 p.m., Women’s Center, 101 White Hall, Louisville Seminary campus

      Films (to be announced) will deal with transgender and related themes; discussion follows screening of each film

  • Transgender 101 Seminar —
    Thursday, Nov. 12, 5:00 p.m.,
    Women’s Center, 101 White Hall, Louisville Seminary campus

      Beth Harrison-Prado will lead an informative presentation on terms, concepts, issues, and myths relating to transgender people and concerns

  • Survivors Prayer —
    Wednesday, Nov. 18, 6:00 p.m.,
    Metropolitan Community Church
    1432 Highland Avenue

  • Trans Gender Lives and Trans Gender Images (Reception and Sneak Preview) —
    Thursday, November 19, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
    performance 6:30 p.m.

      The exhibit features photographs by Rogelio Pereda, a performance led by Basil Kremendhal, and oral histories and photographs by Mari Mujica

  • Morning Meditation —
    Friday, November 20, 8:00 a.m.
    Caldwell Chapel, Louisville Seminary campus

  • Evening Memorial Service and Reception —
    Friday, November 20, 8:00 p.m.
    Caldwell Chapel, Louisville Seminary campus

The 2009 observance of the Transgender Day of Remembrance is organized by the Women’s Center at LPTS, Sienna, More Light at LPTS, LGBT Services at the University of Louisville, Diversity Consultants, Transformations, Metropolitan Community Church, S.O. Theatrical, and the Fairness Campaign.
